I loved the Chinese Opera videos we watched in class. My favorite part was where the guy kept changing masks, so i decided to look some more stuff up about it. I came across this news reel of the performer He Hongqing, who is reported to be the fastest face mask changer.
This next video has all sorts of spectacular goodness in it, fire breathing, face mask changing, fan dancing , and some extremely long and amazing feathers!
I really enjoyed listening to the Gamelan and watching the shadow puppets when we looked at Indonesia in class. I came to find out that there weren't that many great videos of shadow puppet performances, but I found this one that's pretty good. It doesn't show the puppets, but it shows the musicians and singers which is interesting.
The first video was really cool! It still amazes me how fast the performers can change their masks so quickly.
ReplyDeleteI loved the second video the most though. I watched a lot of different Asian theater as a child, but I never really liked them, until I saw the one in class.
The mask-changing is so cool! I like how the news station went behind the scenes with He Hongqing. It's neat to think that YouTube has provided us with a way to view one of China's national treasures. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the Chinese Opera, like we talked briefly after class. Aside from the music as a visual artist and I appreciate the intricate costumes and make up. And I can't get enough of the Gamelan, so anytime I get to watch more of it I'm happy!
ReplyDeleteI love the Chinese dancers. Their costumes and masks are so detailed and colorful. I can really see the small details in their dancing and movements. Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThe Chinese videos are really interesting. Again, we shouldn't be surprised that they always win gymnastics in the olympics, given that it's such a part of the artistic culture.
